October MIIT Filings Reveal an Oddball Collection of Drivetrains

New EREVs from XPeng, EVs from international brands, battery swapping cars, and even a diesel revealed in quiet month.

October’s MIIT filings have revealed a somewhat eclectic collection of drivetrains with more models going the way of EREV, new EVs from abroad, a couple of battery swap-capable cars, and even a diesel, in what seems to be a much quieter month for the perennial revealers of secret machinery.

Here are the nine that caught the eye this month.

XPeng G6 EREV

Much like the X9 and G7 before it, XPeng’s G6 SUV is also going down the EREV route, adding their new Kunpeng drivetrain which consists of a 110kW 1.5-litre engine that serves as a generator, charging the battery, and a single electric motor on the rear axle producing 218kW of power.

Dimensions for the G6 remain as before, but the filings do reveal a fully blacked-out version of the car, which will likely go on sale before the end of the year offering a new competitor in the EREV mid-size SUV category.

AION V L4 Robotaxi

AION’s level-4 capable robotaxi, produced in collaboration with Pony.ai, has received its approval from MIIT, with the model featuring a number of highly visible modifications including multiple LiDAR units facing in every direction.

The V L4 Robotaxi maintains the same 165kW electric motor on the rear axle but gets a panel between the headlamps which, we’re not sure, but looks as if it could be used to show messages to people outside the vehicle.

Tesla Model Y+

The Tesla Model Y may have received a new basic version in recent days but that’s not what’s been shown by the MIIT filings here. Instead, we appear to have a lightly improved version of the existing Model Y+ model which gets a slightly more powerful 225kW rear motor.

This update appears similar to the one recently applied to the Model 3, leading us to believe the Model Y+ could get a CLTC range of close to or higher than 800km.

ITBox InjoyL

The ITBox InjoyL is an all-new brand for the Chinese market that we last saw around 12-18 months ago at a shiny reveal event. Since then little has been seen of the car but it appears that it has now passed MIIT checks and so we finally get some more information about a car that will be produced by the struggling Haima company.

Targeted at the ride-hailing market, the InjoyL is quite a unique car, and not a large one, measuring just 4,500mm long, 1,910mm wide, 1,835mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,850mm, making it not much bigger than a BYD Atto 3.

It features a unique diamond-shaped daytime running light set up front and rear, as well as an interesting 1+1+3 seating formation, with storage space for cases in the please where the passenger would normally sit. Our images are blurry but it looks as though there will be a large screen for entertainment built into the dashboard.

More interesting is the car’s ability to battery swap, leading us to wonder which system it will use, NIO, CATL, or the 3rd party systems for other taxis.

It gets 17-inch steel wheels, and a 120kW electric motor, and what appears to be suicide sliding doors on the passenger side.

XPeng P7 EREV and Ultra

The XPeng P7+ is already getting an appearance refresh after just 12 months on sale, and it’s getting a new drivetrain in the process, becoming the 4th XPeng model to get the Kunpeng EREV drivetrain.

The refreshed look includes an unbroken daytime running light at the front like that on the G6, as well as more chiselled lined in the bumper at the front and rear, while the introduction of an Ultra variant means it’ll get the same triple Turing AI chipset as the G7 and P7 models.

The EREV drivetrain consists of the same 100kW petrol engine as the G6, there just to charge the batteries, as well as a single rear motor producing 180kW of power.

Beijing EU8

A new model from BAIC’s Beijing brand, the EU8, was surfaced by the MIIT filings appearing to be a battery-swap capable vehicle, meaning most likely it’s intended to be sold to ride-hailing companies, as is often the case with BAIC saloons.

This one, which looks strikingly similar to the Arcfox S3, a new model from BAIC’s premium NEV brand, gets a 120kW electric motor and measures 4,850mm long, 1,900mm wide, 1,485mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,875mm, pitching it against models like the AION RT. It gets 17-inchw wheels.

Audi A6L e-tron

Audi’s new A6 has received an electric drivetrain and the China ‘L’ long-wheelbase treatment, arriving with a length of 5,073mm, width of 1,942mm, height of 1,504mm, and wheelbase of 3,076mm.

It gets a dual motor electric drivetrain with a 135kW motor on the front axle and 270kW motor on the rear axle for 405kW in total, good for a top speed of 200kph. The battery, of unknown size at this point, comes from CATL and is of the NMC chemistry.

A version with twin LiDAR units in the lower bumper suggests it might be on course to get the Huawei ADS system as previous Audis before it have, while wheels will come in 20- and 21-inch variants.

Volkswagen ID.Unyx 07

Volkswagen’s ID.Unyx series has struggled in China of late but still appears on course to get a new model in its line-up with the 07 getting the nod from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

It appears similar in stature to the VW ID.7 saloon with a slightly elevated stance and more aggressive styling in line with the ID.Unyx look, and given the standard Unyx’s similarity to the Cupra Tavascan, we could be looking at a potential new Cupra saloon here.

Either way, the 07 measures in at 4,853mm long, 1,852m wide, and 1,566mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,826mm, making it slightly smaller than the ID.7 in each dimension.

Wheels come in 19- and 20-inch varieties, while power comes from a 170kW motor likely situated on the rear axle.

212 T01 Diesel

The 212 T01, a true off-roader born out the of the ashes of the BAW 212, continues to fly in the face of the electrification era, not only sticking to combustion but becoming one of the only models in China to be sold with a diesel engine.

This suggests, more likely than not, that the 212 is headed overseas since diesel isn’t too easy to come by in China except for trucks, but nevertheless the T01 gets a 2.0-litre 122kW engine from BAIC, on top of its usual 17-inch wheels and impressive 43- and 39-degree approach and departure angles respectively, and can be specced with a tow hook as well.

    Hi Mark,
Something unrelated, triggered by the new ID.Unyx model. The VW ID.Unyx 06 was the best-selling car in Ukraine last month. With about 500 sales it topped the model chart. The car isn’t even available through VW dealerships, but only as grey import. I guess these are some of the now famous “0-mile used cars”.

Well that’s interesting. Maybe that’s where their sales picked up. Fascinating insight, thanks for sharing that.
