LIVE Blog: China September NEV Sales Hit New Heights

Epic months for nearly every brand with monthly records being set at many.

China’s September NEV sales and deliveries are coming in during the Chinese national holiday, so some of these might take a few days, but we’ll be posting the numbers right here as they come in. This month is often called Golden September so we’re expecting a few records to be set. Let’s dive into the numbers.

BYD

Kicking things off with the perennial leaders, BYD, who had their best month of the year so far selling (not deliveries but sales in BYD’s case) 355,774 units in September.

That’s a 5% improvement on last month, which is steady growth in a massive growth market this month. Unfortunately we don’t have last year’s BYD brand-specific figure but it seems likely to be a small drop.

Geely Galaxy

Geely Galaxy had their best month ever, smashing through 120k on the way to 120,868 units delivered in September, a 9% improvement on last month.

More importantly, with an ever-expanding range, they also jumped 33% on last year, a market-beating level of growth, as they attempt to hunt down leaders BYD.

Wuling/Baojun

Wuling and Baojun had an absolutely storming month in September, roaring to a first 100k month of the year with 100,593 units delivered, pretty much doubling their figure from last month for which we only had the Wuling numbers.

That’s an impressive 26% growth on last year too, in large part thanks to volume sellers like the Wuling Hongguang 5-door (pictured) and an expanded range.

Leapmotor

Leapmotor are absolutely on a roll in 2025, once again smashing through their previous record and by some margin, 66,657 units being a 14% improvement on last month’s new high.

That’s momentum that looked set to take them onto the podium in our NEV chart until Wuling and Baojun released their stunning numbers, but a massive 97% improvement on the same month last year is still an incredible performance.

With the D19 large SUV set to hit the range soon, alongside the more affordable and Europe-oriented B05 hatchback, things are only looking up for Leapmotor.

XPeng

XPeng’s massive improvement in 2025 has been the turnaround story of the year and September saw them hit a new record high and a new milestone, topping 40k units a month for the first time as we predicted last month, delivering 41,581 units in total.

That’s a healthy monthly improvement of 9% and a huge 95% improvement on the same month last year, marking them as one of the hottest properties in the Chinese auto industry right now.

The new P7 and ramped up G7 have made a big impact, and we know there are new models in the pipeline including a large SUV and a MONA SUV, plus EREV versions of the X9 and G7.

Looking good for profitability by the end of the year.

Qiyuan

Qiyuan had their best month ever in September, their run of great form seeing them storm to 41,205 units, 10% up on last month, though Qiyuan are claiming 25% but we know what they showed us last month.

Regardless, it’s a great performance, and a 79% year-on-year improvement is also way above the market growth, so they’re doing well, and with the new Q05 heading to market soon, there’s plenty more volume to be had.

Xiaomi

Xiaomi hit a new record high in September as deliveries of the YU7 SUV started to get into stride, the brand topping 40,000 units for the first time, a 25% improvement over last month’s stated 30,000.

Year-on-year, the brand is up 150%, though let’s bear in mind the brand didn’t exist as a car maker until 18 months ago. Hitting this level with just two main cars and a super version of the first, is impressive indeed.

They look set to keep climbing this list in the coming months as YU7 deliveries speed up.

Li Auto

Li Auto have had a better month in September, 33,951 units beating August’s performance by 16%, thanks in some part to the launch of the new i8 fully electric SUV.

The overall picture is still challenging with sales down 37% year-on-year, but with the new i6 fully electric SUV showing a very healthy level of interest, things could yet look up towards the end of the year for Li Auto.

Deepal

A strong showing from Changan’s Deepal brand in September sees them climb the charts, hitting 33,626 units in September, a 19% improvement on last month.

Perhaps more impressive is the 48% improvement year-on-year, with the brand’s updated models starting to make an impact, as well as potential export market sales also adding a few units.

Yipai Technology

With Dongfeng’s Yipai Technology triumvirate now producing regular updates on their sales performance, we’re bringing them back into our line-up, and it seems they had a good month, with 30,256 units proving to be a 15.8% improvement on last year, but we have no monthly figure.

The triumvirate, for clarity, includes Yipai, Nammi, and seemingly electrified Aeolus models.

GAC AION

GAC AION haven’t had the greatest of years but September was at least a month to be happy about, 29,113 units taking them to an 8% improvement over last month.

Long term the picture remains disappointing, however, with the result still 19% down on last year, meaning the brand still has some way to go to close the gap to how they were performing.

Lynk & Co

A new record month of Lynk & Co with their 32,902 total deliveries made up of a record high 79.3% NEVs, giving us a rough number of 26,901, a massive 37% gain on last month alone.

Lynk & Co report that the 900 SUV clocked up consecutive months of over 7,000 units, impressive for a three-row SUV, which has clearly contributed, and with the 03, 07, and 08 all being updated, there could be more on the horizon for Lynk & Co.

Fangchengbao

An outstanding month for BYD’s off-road brand, Fangchengbao, who stormed up the tables with a record high 24,121 sales in September, a very impressive 48.3% improvement on last month, likely largely driven by the new Tai 7 in the line-up.

The most impressive growth comes in the year-on-year figures, which are a stunning 344.9% up, an understandable gain given there was only one car in the range this time last year.

Zeekr

With September a huge month for seemingly every other brand, Zeekr’s very steady month-on-month growth of 4% and poor year-on-year decline of 14% bucks the wider trend.

It’s their best month of the year, which is something to hold onto, but there has to be concern over this lack of momentum, especially considering the big numbers being produced by their sister brand Lynk & Co, and the fantastic 9X isn’t going to move this needle a huge amount long-term, even if it might make an impact next month with very positive early interest.

Arcfox

Arcfox also hit a new record monthly high, decisively crossing the 15k threshold with 16,074 units delivered in September, an impressive 52% gain on last month.

The long term picture is also looking good with a 48% year-on-year gain, the new T1 mid-size hatchback clearly having the desired effect on Arcfox’s perpetual circa-10k monthly deliveries.

Onvo

Not a record month for Onvo, somewhat surprisingly, but still their second best ever with 15,246 units a 7% drop on August’s record number.

There’s no figure for last year since the brand didn’t exist yet, but 15,246 shows a clear improvement for a brand perennially stuck below the 10k ceiling, the new L90 seemingly giving the brand a strong lift, enough to take them comfortably ahead of the parent brand.

Voyah

Voyah hit a new record height for them, surpassing the 15k mark for the first time with 15,224 units delivered in September, an 11% improvement over last month, driven in large part by the adoption of Huawei tech across their entire range.

Things look good in the long term too with September a market-beating 52% improvement on last year’s Golden September, and with the Taishan 9L and Passion L set to add a few more premium sales to the range soon, things are finally looking pretty positive for the Dongfeng premium brand.

NIO

A mixed month for NIO, with the upside being a 30% month-on-month improvement driven in large part by the success of the ES8 which has hit the market with an impressively affordable price tag despite its eminent luxury.

The downside is a year-on-year decline of 35%, which shows the main brand in the NIO Group continues to struggle to create meaningful momentum, but with the ES8 only having a few days of sales in September we could see a much stronger October on the cards and a return to levels they’d be happier with.

Denza

A steady month in September for Denza, up just the 3% to 12,407 units, which in a market of huge growth isn’t exactly the look they’re going for, particularly with sister brand Fangchengbao showing how it’s done.

On the plus side, they’re up 28% year-on-year, which is beating the market, so that’s the comfort they’ll take.

IM

IM finally have some good news to share after a difficult 2025, with a huge leap in September to 11,107 units, cracking the psychological 10k barrier for the first time in months, and achieving a 45% month-on-month improvement.

Compared to last year, that’s a 146% gain, in large part driven by opening up an EREV option on the LS6 SUV. Having that option in more cars might just help save their year, and even save their brand.

AVATR

AVATR falling behind IM this month certainly wouldn’t have been on many people’s bingo cards but that’s what we have, 11,028 units delivered just the modest 4% improvement on last month in a big-selling month.

Better news on the annual basis though, a giant 269% improvement on last year, meaning that while they’ll be disappointed to still be hovering around the 10k mark, at least they’re doing much better than they were.

Wey

Wey’s fortunes have improved considerably as the year has gone on and September looks to have been their best month ever for NEV sales, 11,026 units a new record for them and a solid 37% improvement on last month.

Compared to last year, it’s an even better story of 63% gains, helping to push GWM themselves to a new monthly NEV record of 45,961 units, showing that they’re steadily getting their act together.

iCAR

iCAR had quite the return to form in September, clocking up their second best month ever with 10,734 units delivered, a 123% gain on last month’s dismal showing.

Long term, the numbers are also impressively up, as much as 107% on last year according to iCAR, but with the new V27 and a more powerful, updated V23, they need to start cracking on from 10k now and hitting consistent numbers each month.

Luxeed

Well, well, well, look who’s back on our charts! Luxeed, after not publishing their crashing numbers in recent months, have finally surfaced with a very solid month for them, 7,882 units a very reasonable re-entry to the charts.

Both the S7 and R7 have been refreshed, which seems to be behind the revival, but they need to build on this now, head back above 10k units, and ideally get some new products on board. Can they do it?

Ora

Ora’s dismal year is at least looking brighter by the month, with September being their best of the year so far, 6,255 units enough for a 20% gain on last month.

Long term, it’s a more modest 14% improvement year-on-year, not great when your numbers are so average, but they have just revealed the Ora 5 SUV and that could, if it’s good, hit the right spot for them and help lift these numbers to a better place.

firefly

firefly aren’t setting the sales charts alike but they are making steady progress, September’s 5,775 units a 33% improvement on last month and a record high for the one-car brand that’s steadily heading into European markets over the coming months.

Anecdotally, we’re starting to see a few more fireflys (or should that be fireflies?) on the road around China, so this could be more of an awareness ramp-up that can take time in a crowded Chinese market.

ROX

ROX continues to amble along with the lightest of month-on-month growth, 1,398 units an increase of 3% on last month with just 40 units added to their August tally.

On the one hand, continued growth throughout 2025 is positive, but as we always say, at these numbers, there has to be concern over their long-term viability.

Yangwang

Yangwang had their best month of the year with 758 units sold in September, a large 87% gain on last month.

These numbers are still some way behind Yangwang’s best which came when the brand was first launched and the U8 stormed the market, but it’s movement in the right direction for BYD’s most premium offering.
