Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Claims Nürburgring Production EV Lap Record

Chinese electric saloon sets new benchmark with 7:04.957 lap time, surpassing previous records for road-legal electric vehicles.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is now the fastest recorded production electric car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife with a time of 7 minutes, 4.957 seconds.

Set on April 1st this year, the lap cements Xiaomi’s position in the automotive history books, building on the promise set by the heavily-modified Ultra Prototype in October last year, when it lapped the track in just 6 minutes, 46.874 seconds to become the fastest four-door ever around the circuit.

Averaging 109.74 mph, or 176.60kph, across the 20.8km circuit, the SU7 Ultra stole the crown from the previous production EV record holder, the Porsche Taycan that had achieved a time of 7 minutes, 7.55 seconds.

Xiaomi boss Lei Jun, shared the news with his nearly half a million followers on X, stating “I believe this record will soon be broken again. We’ll keep pushing at Nürburgring, growing alongside the top players in the automotive industry.”

Launched in February this year, both the SU7 Ultra and SU7 Ultra Prototype share the same cutting-edge powertrain featuring Xiaomi’s in-house developed Super Motor V8s, capable of spinning at up to 27,200 rpm.

With 1,548hp on tap, the SU7 Ultra accelerates from 0-60 mph in just 1.98 seconds and boasts a top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h), making it the fastest and most powerful production four-door globally.

Before its Nürburgring triumph, the production SU7 Ultra had already demonstrated its capabilities at multiple Chinese circuits.

It holds records at Chengdu Tianfu Circuit (1:26.741), Zhuzhou International Circuit (1:41.806), Zhuhai International Circuit (1:37.758), and Zhejiang International Circuit (1:32.616).

These consistent performances validate Xiaomi’s engineering approach which, unlike most Chinese automotive brands, appears to prioritise balanced track performance alongside road-going practicality.

In a parallel development highlighting Xiaomi’s growing motorsport credentials, the company announced a partnership with Polyphony Digital which will see the SU7 Ultra production car featured in the Gran Turismo 7 racing simulator.

At the same time, Xiaomi teased the Xiaomi Vision GT concept car, an extreme performance model specific for the game which the Gran Turismo makers often invite the featured brands to design.

The SU7 Ultra the first Chinese car ever to feature in the Gran Turismo series and follows the likes of the Wuling Hongguang S which became the first Chinese car ever to feature in a racing game when it was included in the Forza Horizon series.

Gran Turismo producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, paid tribute to the SU7, remarking upon a visit to Xiaomi’s headquarters with Lei Jun: “It’s amazing. You made such a good product in just three years.”

When asked about how Gran Turismo’s team pick cars for the game, he said: “We pick cars with historic significance in the automotive industry, memorable designs, or strong cultural and lifestyle connections. Most importantly, it has to be a car we really love.”
