smart has launched the all-electric #2 Premium in China at a limited-time price of RMB 99,900 (approx. US$14,700), reviving its two-seat city car with 410km of CLTC range and first deliveries due within weeks.
The #2 Premium was launched at an event in Guangzhou on 5 November, following the car’s world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on 12 October. Its official guide price is RMB 102,900 (approx. US$15,100), with the RMB 99,900 launch price available until 30 November.
The 999-unit Couture Edition, priced at RMB 112,999 (approx. US$16,600), has sold out in China and in every European market where it has been offered. Series production is under way, with the first Chinese deliveries expected in the coming weeks and European deliveries planned for 2027.
“As the pioneer of the two-seater city car, smart has always explored new possibilities for urban mobility,” says Tong Xiangbei, smart’s global CEO. “With the all-electric smart #2, we are reinventing the concept that helped define our brand. It carries forward three decades of smart heritage while setting new expectations for the ultra-compact segment.”

“For smart, premium has never been defined by size,” says Kang Yi, smart’s global CMO. “Our iconic two-seater is what made smart famous, and with the all-electric smart #2, we are bringing it back better equipped than ever. It stays true to the character and driving joy that people love, while introducing modern technology, greater comfort and thoughtful details for a new generation.”
Rear-wheel drive and a 6.95m turning circle
Styled by the Mercedes-Benz global design team, the #2 is the first car on smart’s new Electric Compact Architecture (ECA), which the brand says was developed for this car rather than adapted from a larger vehicle. It measures 2,751mm long, 1,669mm wide and 1,555mm tall on a 1,875mm wheelbase, and has a 6.95m kerb-to-kerb turning circle.
A rear-mounted 60kW, 130Nm motor drives the rear wheels, taking the car from 0-50km/h in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 140km/h. smart says the five-link rear suspension is a first in the class, and weight distribution is 50:50.
The 35.8kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, supplied by CATL, gives 410km of CLTC range in China and a target of 290km on the WLTP cycle for European cars. A 10-80% charge takes around 20 minutes, and energy consumption is rated at 9.8kWh/100km.
Inside
The cabin has a 12.8-inch floating central touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital instrument display, a seven-speaker Sennheiser sound system and heated front seats.

Luggage space is 305 litres, rising to 527 litres in its maximum configuration, and the lower section of the split tailgate folds down to act as a shelf or seat, rated to carry 120kg.

The new-generation Tridion Cell Evo safety structure surrounds the cabin, and there are seven airbags. Driver assistance uses five cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors to provide adaptive cruise control, lane centring and remote parking.
Built in China for global markets
The #2 was developed jointly by smart’s engineering teams in China and Europe and is built by Geely’s Zhejiang Haoqing Automobile Manufacturing for China, Europe and other export markets. smart says it has completed winter and summer testing programmes covering driving dynamics, durability, safety and everyday usability.

Launch offers running until 30 November include a RMB 10,000 (approx. US$1,470) subsidy for owners trading in a smart, RMB 5,000 (approx. US$740) for repeat buyers and a RMB 3,000 (approx. US$440) order incentive, along with finance at 0% interest for the first two years of a five-year plan.
smart confirmed the #2 as the revival of the fortwo in September 2025. The original fortwo debuted in 1998 and sold more than two million units.
