Six-seats, rear-wheel steering, and steer-by-wire among flagship model’s premium features.

XPeng has unveiled the first images of its upcoming GX SUV, a six-seat luxury model with a Range Rover-style glasshouse, that will take the Chinese EV maker into the premium market segment.
The company shared three official renderings of the GX on LinkedIn, marking the model’s first public appearance after numerous prototypes were spotted over the pas few months.
The SUV, internally codenamed G01, will feature advanced technologies including steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering systems, according to XPeng CEO, He Xiaopeng, who also claimed “The number 1 signifies the company’s approach of starting from first principles and reimagining a full-size flagship family SUV with comprehensive AI thinking”.
He explained that the “X” in GX stands for eXploration, representing “the pursuit of the beautiful unknown in mobility, as well as XPeng’s technological X-tech DNA,” although it could symbolise the number ten in roman numerals since the brand already has the G9 SUV.

Advanced platform and technology integration
The GX will be built on XPeng’s new SEPA (Smart Electric Platform Architecture) 3.0 physical AI vehicle architecture, which He says “leads the industry by a generation in integration, intelligence, handling, and safety philosophy.”
The model incorporates design elements from XPeng’s successful X9 MPV, with He noting the company “has carried over the popular comfortable spaciousness and flexible drivability DNA from its X9 MPV to the GX.”
“Every seat is the best seat, and every row can recline fully. Even with six on board, you still have a genuinely practical, extra‑large trunk,” added He.
While XPeng has not specified powertrain configurations for the GX, the model is expected to offer both extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) variants, following the company’s dual-power strategy adopted across recent model launches.
Styling-wise, the GX is something of a departure from the brand’s current look, seemingly adopting elements from the futuristic P7 in the taillight design, a simplified front face, and tauter surfacing, likely under the direction of new design chief JuanMa Lopez.

Premium market positioning
The GX will sit above XPeng’s current flagship SUV, the G9, which starts at RMB 248,800 (£26,350 / $35,850) and reaches RMB 278,800 (£29,500 / $40,150) . Industry observers expect the GX to target a price range between RMB 400,000 and RMB 500,000, positioning it firmly in the luxury SUV segment alongside established premium brands like Zeekr and NIO.
This pricing would place the GX significantly above XPeng’s current highest-priced model, the X9 MPV, which ranges from RMB 309,800 (£32,800 / $44,650) to RMB 329,800 (£34,900 / $47,500).
The move into luxury territory comes on the back of a highly successful year for the brand’s sale, averaging over 30,000 units every month in 2025, until deliveries hit the skids somewhat in January this year with the company reporting just 20,011 vehicle deliveries.
The GX enters an increasingly populated segment that saw the likes of the NIO ES8, Onvo L90, Zeekr 9X, Lynk & Co 900, and Voyah Taishan, and IM LS9 debut in the last 12 months alone.
The model is expected to get a full reveal in the next few weeks.
