Voyah Taishan 9L unveiled as flagship hybrid SUV with 65kWh battery

New large SUV targets Zeekr 9X with extended range drivetrain and premium positioning as Dongfeng’s luxury brand expands lineup.

Voyah has officially unveiled the Taishan 9L, a flagship plug-in hybrid SUV that positions the brand’s luxury credentials against rivals including the Zeekr 9X and Denza N9.

The large three-row SUV features a substantial 65kWh battery pack paired with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, delivering a combined electric-only range of up to 280km on the WLTC cycle.

Measuring 5,230mm in length with a 3,120mm wheelbase, the Taishan 9L is fractionally smaller than both the 9X and N9, but is nevertheless has a commanding appearance with the large chrome grille from the Dreamer and Zhuiguang L, mirror-style alloys, and two-tone paintwork.

Expected pricing will likely start around RMB 400,000 (£41,200 / $56,000) when deliveries commence in early 2025, placing it firmly in the premium large SUV segment.

The Taishan 9L adopts Voyah’s latest design language with a prominent front grille featuring vertical chrome slats and integrated LED lighting elements.

A full-width light bar spans the front fascia, connecting the main headlight units which incorporate matrix LED technology for adaptive lighting functions.

The SUV’s substantial proportions are emphasised by pronounced wheel arches housing large alloy wheels, which come in both 21- and 22-inch variants.

We don’t have any shots of the rear yet but expect a full-width light bar with Voyah logo detailing and potentially Voyah lettering that lights up in turquoise when using the ADAS system.

The images reveal further luxury details designed to make the 9L stand out from competitors, such as shooting star lighting in the door handle cavities, as well as electric opening doors, indicated by the proximity sensors at the bottom of the doors.

Full-length puddle lights and an electrically extending step also feature, both useful features given the commanding height of the car itself, although lowering air suspension is also expected to feature.

We can also see in the images that the 9L will get the 5-degree rear-wheel steering function that recently debuted on the 2026 Voyah Dreamer, ensuring the 9L should be quite manoeuvrable for a large car, though with only two electric motors it won’t get a pivot turn ability like the Denza N9.

Power comes from Voyah’s advanced plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors producing 150 and 230kW of power on the front and rear axle respectively for all-wheel drive capability.

The system is a plug-in hybrid system meaning the engine can drive the wheels, unlike in an extended range EV where the engine can’t drive the wheels, however it will operate primarily in electric mode for urban driving, with the petrol engine engaging seamlessly for longer journeys or when maximum performance is required.

The substantial 65kWh battery pack enables up to 305km of electric range on the WLTC cycle, and a total range of 1,400km on the more generous CLTC cycle.

Voyah has confirmed the 9L gets an 800-volt platform and the battery gets 5C fast charging capability, which should enable the battery to charge from 10-80% in around 15 minutes or less.

Fuel consumption when operating in hybrid mode is claimed to be between 6.6- and 6.9-litres per 100km.

Voyah also confirmed the 9L will get Huawei’s top ADS 4 system complete with four lidar units, while it will also benefit from the latest Huawei Harmony 5 operating system.

The Taishan 9L represents Voyah’s most ambitious model to date, targeting affluent buyers seeking luxury SUV capability with advanced electrification.

Expected pricing around RMB 400,000 (£41,200 / $56,000) positions it against an growing list of premium competitors like the Denza N9, Zeekr 9X, IM LS9, and NIO ES8.

A full official reveal is expected in the next couple of months with the 9L expected to go on sale first in China before potential international sales in Voyah’s growing global market.
