Chery QQ3 Revealed at Chengdu Auto Show

Production version of QQ Qurio concept from the Shanghai Auto Show officially revives the QQ moniker.

Chery has officially unveiled the all-new QQ3 electric hatchback at the 2025 Chengdu Auto Show.

The production model is scheduled for market launch before the end of the year, where it will compete directly with vehicles like China’s best-selling car this year, the Geely Xingyuan, and the AION UT.

This launch marks the revival of the historic QQ nameplate, which was originally retired in 2014 after significant commercial success in its first decade.

The new model, which is based on the Qurio concept first presented at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show, represents a comprehensive modernisation of the concept, transitioning to a fully electric powertrain and contemporary technology.

The design of the new QQ3 adopts a distinctly retro-modern aesthetic, characterised by its rounded overall shape and distinctive oval headlights.

These lights incorporate integrated double-horizontal daytime running light strips, creating a distinctive front signature, a feature replicated in the taillights.

The focus appears to be on achieving a cute look with very little in terms of definition, the only real points of note being a floating C-pillar, semi-concealed door handles, and gloss-black cladding around the wheelarches and sills.

The vehicle is built on Chery’s T12 platform, with dimensions including a length exceeding 4,200 mm and a wheelbase of over 2,700 mm.

The cabin represents a significant technological leap over the original QQ models, with features including a flat-bottom steering wheel, oval air-conditioning vents, and a rectangular digital instrument cluster.

A 15.6-inch 2.5K resolution floating central control screen dominates the dash and is powered by a high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

This system supports an AI voice assistant and offers mobile connectivity solutions including CarPlay, HiCar, and CarLink.

Additional features include 256-colour ambient lighting, a 50W wireless charging pad, and over-the-air (OTA) update capability.

Power is delivered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 90 kW (121 hp).

Chery has not yet officially disclosed the battery capacity or the anticipated driving range for the new model, but these details are expected to be confirmed closer to the vehicle’s market launch at the end of the year.

The QQ3 is expected to be equipped with Chery’s Falcon 500 advanced driving assistance system (ADAS), which is capable of providing high-speed Navigate on Pilot (NOA) functionality, offering a level of driving automation on controlled-access highways.

History of QQ

The original Chery QQ series was first launched in 2003 and was marketed as an affordable first car for young buyers, despite being a clear copy of the Daewoo Matiz / Chevrolet Sail.

It achieved considerable success, with monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units by 2005 and cumulative sales surpassing one million by 2011, however increased market competition led to declining sales of subsequent models, resulting in the series being discontinued in 2014.

Its revival began with the Qurio concept car shown at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2025, although Chery has been selling models with the QQ name for some time, including the QQ Ice Cream, a boxy microcar rival to the Wuling Hongguang Mini, and the Chery QQ Little Ant, a four-seater compact car in the same vein as the original smart fortwo.

Chery has announced plans to pour more effort into the iconic QQ name which has included such gems as the QQme, a car designed by former Ferrari designer Enrico Fumia.
