Changan Qiyuan NEVO A06 Debuts with 6C Charging

Mid-size saloon also boasts a hatchback rear and front zero-gravity seats as well as a dual-layer fridge.

Changan has officially unveiled the Qiyuan NEVO A06, a new medium-to-large saloon that will come in both fully electric and extended-range EV variants.

Boasting 6C battery technology, Changan claims the A06 can recharge at a rate of one kilometre per second, meaning users can potentially add as much as 300km of range in five minutes.

The car will sit on Changan’s dedicated SDA (Super DNA) architecture, which incorporates high-level driver assistance systems supported by a roof-mounted lidar unit and additional sensors.

An official market launch is scheduled for later this year but it’s possible the A06 could debut first at the Munich Auto Show in September.

The A06 measures 4,885mm long, making it shorter than the brand’s existing A07 saloon, but at 1,916mm wide, 1,496m tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,922mm, the A06 is larger in every other dimension than its sibling.

With a drag coefficient of 0.217Cd, it’s a visually slippery design with a low streamlined nose, closed face, and a fastback-style rear with a hatchback opening.

The front design features a distinctive curved daytime running lamp which boasts 236 LEDs, with the actual headlamps concealed within the full-width black panel rather than in a separate lower cluster.

At the rear, there’s a ducktail spoiler and a full-width lightbar, while there’s a choice of light and dark alloy wheels together with racy-looking yellow brake calipers.

Inside, the A06 adopts a fairly minimalist design philosophy with a two-tone colour scheme, acres of soft-touch materials, and concealed air vents across the dashboard, as well as seemingly zero-gravity front seats.

The dash is dominated by a large central screen which appears to adopt Xiaomi’s attachable physical buttons underneath, while there’s also a slim digital screen behind the steering wheel and a head-up display.

Climate control is managed via concealed air-conditioning outlets integrated into the dashboard, and the cabin is enhanced with plentiful 256-colour ambient lighting.

A premium 20-speaker sound system and 38 practical storage compartments are fitted throughout the cabin, while there’s also a large frunk outside that’s 101-litres in size, and a large boot with as much as 656-litres of space.

The interior features a number of practical features for occupants, including storage for sunglasses, a large glovebox big enough to accommodate a handbag, as well as deep door pockets and concealed umbrella holders in the doors.

There’s also a large storage space below the centre console for large items, and a 9.5-litre, dual-layer cooling and heating drawer above and behind the centre console with separate 4.9- and 4.6-litre compartments.

Both front seats can be fully reclined to open up a sort of chaise-longue arrangement, while the rear backrests can also be reclined to 145-degrees, and all four seats are heated, ventilated, and massaging.

Both the frunk and boot can be opened electronically by tapping on the Qiyuan logos.

The BEV variant will be offered in two configurations, the base version offering 120kW (161hp) of power and the flagship version a 210kW (282hp) motor, both on the rear axle, with a minimum 0-100kph sprint of six seconds.

Three battery packs will be offered, ranging from 42.12kWh which gets 420km of range on the CLTC cycle, to a 51.48kWh battery for 510km of range, and the largest 63.18kWh battery for 630km of range.

The EREV variant combines a 120 kW electric motor with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated range-extender engine which, combined with a 28.39 kWh battery pack, can give an electric range of up to 180km on the WLTC test cycle.

The headline feature is the 6C fast-charging capability which can replenish the battery from 30-80% in nine minutes, or from 10-80% in 12 minutes.
