Qiyuan Q05 Revealed In New Official Pictures

New fully electric compact SUV will take on the BYD Yuan Plus / Atto 3 and head to international markets.

Changan brand, Qiyuan, has unveiled official images of the Q05, a new compact SUV set to take on the likes of the BYD Yuan Plus / Atto 3 and Leapmotor B10.

The new model, which should replace the outgoing hybrid Q05, will become fully electric for the first time and boast a 120kW motor as well as lidar.

It brings the Q05 into line with the brand’s latest design language and could start from under RMB 100,000 (£10,350 / $13,000) when it goes on sale later this year, with an official launch expected at this month’s Chengdu Auto Show.

The Q05 is also likely to see sales in international markets with Changan’s expansion via the Deepal brand into Europe and Australia among others.

Measuring 4,435 long, 1,855mm wide, and 1,595 or 1,600mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,735mm, the Q05 is smaller than its predecessor in every dimension.

It gets styling that brings it into line with Qiyuan’s latest design language, launched to great success on the Q07 SUV which has proven to be a sales hit for Changan’s affordable new energy brand.

That means at the front there’s a curved, full-width daytime running light with three smaller elements on either side, above a pointy nose, large headlamps in the lower bumper, and an exaggerated air intake that gives the Q05 an aggressive appearance.

There’s also a lidar unit on the windscreen and turquoise lighting elements front and rear, suggesting a decent level of autonomous driving support.

We know from the MIIT filings that the Q05 gets a choice of 17- or 18-inch wheels, though the designs shown in the official imagery look to be more aero-influenced in appearance.

There’s heavy sculpting along the doors, as well as a front-mounted charge port, and a reverse shark-fin C-pillar which gives the roof a semi-floating look.

At the rear, Qiyuan’s distinctive looped daytime running light extends the full width of the rear end, with the turquoise ADAS lighting elements cutting through the loop on either side.

There’s also a rear window wiper at the base of the glass, a twin-blade rear spoiler, and rugged, semi-diffuser style detailing in the lower bumper.

Additional details of the Q05 are sparse but we do know that it will get a 120kW motor, likely on the front axle as on the Q07, but the electric A07 gets its motor on the rear so it could go either way.

We’d expect a choice of batteries in the range of 55kWh to 68kWh, offering WLTC ranges of 350 to 450km on a single charge, with 3C charging from 30-80 percent in around 15 minutes.

Prices have yet to be announced but given the eminent affordability of the larger Q07, which starts at just RMB 129,800, (£13,400 / $18,000), we’d expect the Q05 might even dip under the magic RMB 100,000 (£10,350 / $13,000) mark for entry-level variants without the lidar unit.

An official launch is expected at the Chengdu Auto Show later this month, but given Changan’s international expansion of late, with Qiyuan getting the NEVO name outside of China, it’s possible it could debut instead at the Munich Auto Show in September.
