Geely Launches Radar King Kong EM-P Pickup with 1,068 km Hybrid Range

New plug-in hybrid pickup truck debuts in China before global rollout as Riddara RD6 EM-P

Geely has introduced the Radar King Kong EM-P, a plug-in hybrid version of the RD6 pickup truck with a starting price of 139,800 yuan (£14,500 / $19,400).

The model, which will be sold internationally as the Riddara RD6 EM-P, combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with dual electric motors to deliver 260 kW (349 hp) and a maximum claimed range of 1,068 km in hybrid mode.

The King Kong EM-P marks the first hybrid variant in Radar’s lineup, which previously consisted solely of the all-electric RD6.

The brand, established under Geely in 2022, initially focused on electric commercial vehicles before expanding into hybrid technology.

The new model retains the same exterior design as its battery-electric counterpart, albeit with twin vertical daytime running lights in the main light unit.

Buyers can choose between two wheelbase configurations, a standard 3,120 mm version where the truck is 5,260 mm long, or a long-wheelbase variant of 3,310 mm that extends overall length to 5,500 mm.

Built on Geely’s MAP modular architecture—derived from the SEA platform—the King Kong EM-P utilises high-strength steel in 70% of its body structure, achieving a torsional rigidity of 30,300 Nm.

The cabin seats five and features a 14.6-inch central touchscreen on the dash alongside a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster.

A two-tone design gives an upmarket feeling with plenty of soft touch materials including seats clad in artificial leather.

Payload capacity stands at 1,000 kg, but towing capability has yet to be confirmed.

The hybrid system pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors and a 3DHT transmission, producing peak torque of 914 Nm, and capable of a 0-100kph acceleration time of 6.3 seconds, or 8.6 seconds when fully loaded.

The 4WD system responds within 20 milliseconds and offers four terrain modes (snow, mud, off-road, and sand), with climbing capabilities of 45 degrees unloaded and 33 degrees at full capacity.

Fuel consumption is rated at 1.5 L/100 km in hybrid operation, rising to 6.4 L/100 km when running solely on the combustion engine.

A 19.09 kWh LFP battery provides up to 100 km of electric-only range on the CLTC test cycle, while a 60-litre fuel tank extends maximum range beyond 1,000 km.

The vehicle supports 3.3 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and can supply up to 21 kW in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging scenarios.

Three trim levels are available in China: the Standard Bed (139,800 yuan), All-Round Long Bed (149,800 yuan), and Intelligent Long Bed (159,800 yuan).

The model’s international pricing and specifications under the Riddara RD6 EM-P nameplate will be confirmed at a later date.

This launch strengthens Geely’s position in the commercial vehicle sector while addressing range limitations associated with pure electric pickups—a strategic move as global markets gradually adopt electrified utility vehicles.
