Geely Galaxy M9 Debuts as High-Tech, Luxury Contender in Global SUV Market

Chinese automaker unveils spacious six-seater with AI, hybrid efficiency, and premium features at competitive price point.

Geely has officially launched its new flagship model, the Galaxy M9, at a global event in Milan.

The full-size SUV, built on the GEA Evo native architecture, aims to set new standards by combining cutting-edge new energy technology, artificial intelligence, and oriental-inspired luxury.

With imposing dimensions of 5,205mm in length, 1,999mm in width, and 1,800mm in height, the M9 presents a bold fusion of Chinese and international design influences.

The interior prioritises passenger comfort, offering a generous 3.7 metres of effective cabin length and 1.3 metres of headroom in a six-seater, 2+2+2 formation.

Access to the third row comes via the 180mm aisle between the second-row captain’s seats, both of which features cupholders in the armrests.

The seats themselves feature high armrests for additional comfort, and 11-layers of sponge with a 20mm slow rebound sponge promising a comfortable seating experience.

Third row seats get an enormous 0.15m2 window for an unprecedented view of the road, while the backrest can be electrically reclined as much as 150-degrees.

In the front, a 30-inch panoramic display anchors the high-tech dashboard, emulating that of the Lynk & Co 900, while in the rear, a screen of around 17-inches folds down from the roof with possible gesture control.

Customers will get an AI-powered smart cabin system and premium seating configurations designed for maximum comfort.

Geely has opted for traditional door handles on the M9, a deliberate choice likely to appeal to buyers who favour practicality over concealed designs.

Performance comes courtesy of Geely’s Thor EM-P super hybrid powertrain, capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds while delivering an exceptional maximum range of over 1,500 km.

The driving experience is further refined by an AI-tuned digital chassis developed with input from Lotus engineers, alongside the advanced G-pilot H5 intelligent safety system, which offers semi-autonomous driving capabilities.

The M9 is expected to compete with the recently launched Deepal S09 and comes with a predicted price tag somewhere between RMB 200,000 and RMB 300,000 (£20,600 / £31,000 – $27,800 / $41,700), outstanding value in a hotly contested segment.

The Milan unveiling also underscores Geely’s global ambitions, presenting the M9 as a technologically sophisticated yet accessible alternative to established luxury SUVs, and a car that might make it to European markets.

With its blend of space, innovation, and competitive pricing, the Galaxy M9 appears poised to make a significant impact in markets worldwide.

Analysts predict strong sales potential, particularly in China’s value-conscious premium segment, where Geely continues to strengthen its reputation for delivering high-specification vehicles at mainstream price points.
