Leapmotor Launches B10 Electric SUV Offering Lidar From Less Than $18,000

B-segment SUV will go up against the likes of BYD’s Atto 3 (Yuan Plus) and Geely Galaxy EX5 (E5) and sits on new LEAP 3.5 intelligent platform.

Leapmotor has officially launched the B10 B-segment electric SUV in China with a starting price of just RMB 109,800 (£11,700 / $15,100), gaining 15,010 pre-orders in the first hour.

The brand’s sixth model, after the T03, C01, C11, C10, and C16, will also be their third model for international sales after Stellantis took a 21 percent stake in Leapmotor to create a joint venture sales company that is currently selling the T03 and C10 EV and EREV editions outside of China.

Sitting on the LEAP 3.5 platform, the B10 combines high-end cockpit chips, AI large language model integration, AI end-to-end intelligent driving capability, cell-to-chassis integration, combined powertrain components, and more to create the most intelligent vehicle at its price point.

It is the only product in its class to boast use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8650 intelligent driving chip and Snapdragon 8295A cockpit chip, which boast 200 and 30 TOPS respectively to unlock level 3 autonomous driving capability and super quick infotainment.

Battery sizes weren’t mentioned in the launch event in Hangzhou but the B10 comes with cell-to-chassis technology and two battery variants offering 510 and 600km of range on the CLTC cycle respectively, with charging times of 19 and 20 minutes from 30-80 percent. Vehicle-to-load external discharge is also possible.

Power is driven in all variants through a 7-in-1 160kW, 240Nm motor on the rear axle, giving the B10 a 0-100kph sprint of just 6.8 seconds, half a second faster than its larger sibling, the C10.

Lidar Intelligent Driving editions feature a Hesai Ultra HD Long-range lidar unit above the windscreen boasting 300-metre object detection, 140-degree wide-angle view, 24.6 billion units per second sampling rate, and 99.9 percent noise filtering.

Models equipped with this package also gain an extensive suite of radars and cameras that enable the B10 to offer end-to-end autonomous driving on both high-speed and urban roads with automatic lane changing and roadworks avoidance.

Inside, the B10 features a 14.6-inch 2.5k HD screen with either a Snapdragon 8155 chip or the flagship 8295A chip, depending on the spec chosen, powering the Leapmotor OS 4.0 Plus operating system, which is compatible with Huawei HiCar and CarLink.

The system now offers access to large language model-powered AI assistants for the first time, with both DeepSeek and Tongyi Qianwen models supported for on-the-fly support with queries.

As well as a non-vented wireless charger and fold-down cupholders, the dashboard features a somewhat unique multi-slot functionality, with six holes, three on the top rail and three on the bottom, capable of holding either your own accessories for customisation or more practical solution like a fold-out table.

In the back, family-friendly features include a slot for holding tissues in the back of the centre console and the return of the flat plate in the rear armrest for suction bowls/plates for babies, while a 1.83m2 panoramic roof also comes with an electric sunblind.

Interior colour options are either black for the bamboo charcoal fibre trim on entry-level variants, and purple or white for the OEKO-TEX-certified imitation leather on more expensive variants, while the exterior can be specified in purple, blue, black, white, silver, or dark grey.

There’s also heating for the two front seats and steering wheel, and ventilation for the driver’s seat available, as well as electronic seat adjustment, 256-colour ambient lighting, and an electronic tailgate.

A 12-speaker Leapmotor Sound System is also included on all but the base model, while a heat pump, active grille, 540-degree panoramic camera and driving recorder come as standard on all versions.

Level 2 autonomous driving is also included on all versions, as is automatic parking, while upgrading to the lidar-equipped variants also unlocks urban autonomous driving, memory parking, and remote parking assist, as well as additional safety features and a sentry mode.

At 4,515mm long, 1,885mm wide, 1,655mm tall, and with a wheelbase of 2,735mm, the B10 sits between a BYD Atto 3 and a Geely EX5 in size terms, and offers a greater cabin utilisation ratio than both at 87.4 percent.

With a 5.25-metre turning radius, the B10 should be quite agile to manoeuvre around town, while flat tyre stability control is also included on all versions of the car.

Standard boot space comes in at 420 litres but lowering the boot floor unlocks an additional 95 litres for 515 litres of space, enough for six suitcases apparently, while folding the rear seats down expands that space to as much as 1,415 litres.

There’s also a bed mode included, as per modern standards in China, enabling users to take the B10 out on longer adventures.
