S800 marks Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance’s entry into the million RMB segment.
Huawei has unveiled the Maextro S800 executive saloon, the first model from the new flagship brand that sits atop the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA).
The imposing new luxury car comes with an estimated price tag of RMB 1-1.5 million marking it out as a Chinese competitor to the fabled Mercedes-Maybach.
Sitting at an impressive 5.48-metres in length, the S800 is the longest HIMA model yet and promises unparalleled luxury and intelligence thanks to its complete integration into the Harmony ecosystem, which includes infotainment and autonomous driving features.
As with other HIMA vehicles, Maextro brand products will be built together with a partner, in this case JAC, the same brand that built the early Nio models.
So far, little has been revealed about the S800 other than figures like dimensions. At 5.48-metres long, 2-metres wide, 1.536-metres tall, and with a wheelbase of 3.37-metres, it’s a big beast and should offer exceptional interior space.
It goes without saying that the S800 will offer the latest Harmony operating system and a plethora of Huawei intelligence and tech inside, likely even over and above what is already offered in the flagship AITO M9 and Stelato S9 models, but we’ll have to wait to hear about that.
Currently, there is only one image of the interior, which shows a pair of fully enclosed rear seats, hints of real wood, and a starlight rooflining similar to that found in a Rolls-Royce complete with shooting stars.
In the accompanying video, we’ve managed to pull out a single overhead view of the rear cabin which we’ve brightened up to reveal a large dividing console between the rear seats with twin wireless chargers and a pull out drawer in the footwell, as well as another compartment between the backrests likely to be a wine cooler of sorts.
The concept of stars and galaxies hasn’t just been adopted inside but also extensively outside, with starry lights at the front and rear, as well as in the concealed door handles.
The brand’s press release talks of a design concept that embodies “harmony between heaven, earth, and people” and something that “explores the boundlessness of the universe”.
There’s also a suggestion that the ‘stars’ in the Nebula scroll taillights might actually move around to add a little extra glitz to the overall design.
There’s also a lidar unit mounted atop the windscreen to support the latest Huawei autonomous driving system, and a more fastback type rear profile than the traditional saloon layout.
Other information we know about the S800 includes a focus on natural materials, with the interior expected to feature liberal amounts of real wood and polished leather, while the full-face alloy wheels may also feature hand polishing like those on the Zeekr 009 Glory Edition.
Huawei says the S800 is built to an ‘8S standard’, including super cruise, super manoeuvrability, super information perception, super privacy, earth-ground network connection, artificial intelligence assistance, active protection system, and super reliability.
We’d expect this to reference the Huawei Qiankun ADAS system, potentially rear-wheel steering, high-power chips for infotainment and ADAS support (level 3 Huawei claims), special darkened glass that protects interior occupants from cameras like that on the aforementioned 009 Glory Edition, satellite connectivity, the Harmony operating system, and high levels of active safety.
The S800 is based on the second-generation Tuling Longxing platform, which has been in development for five years. The only question is whether the S800 will be fully electric or a range extender, or have the option of both.
Deposits of 20,000 can be placed already, with sales expected to start in early 2025.
