Smartphone giant unveils most powerful SU7 yet alongside Nurburgring record for 4-door saloon.
Xiaomi has unveiled the SU7 Ultra, an electrifying flagship version of their popular EV saloon producing an astonishing 1,526hp for a sub-2-second 0-100kph sprint.
Available for pre-sale immediately, the Ultra will cost RMB 814,900 when it goes on official sale in March 2025, making it cheaper than a Tesla Model S Plaid and almost 1.5 times as powerful.
Its jaw-dropping powertrain is comprised of three electric motors with twin Xiaomi V8s motors on the rear axle, producing 570hp each, and a single Xiaomi V6s motor on the front axle producing 386hp.
In tandem with the launch, Xiaomi revealed that its SU7 Ultra Prototype model, which has been testing at the Nurburgring in recent months, achieved a new lap record for four-door saloons of just 6:46.874, a time it achieved on a damp circuit.
In order to accommodate the performance gains, the regular SU7 has been kitted out with significant aerodynamic modifications including a large front splitter, active rear diffuser, and a large fixed spoiler at the rear, as well as a wider track and the Asil-D torque vectoring system for greater stability.
These aerodynamic devices help the SU7 Ultra to produce 285kg of downforce.
Other notable performance upgrades include Pirelli P Zero 5 tyres wrapped over 21-inch wheels, as well as carbon ceramic brake discs capable of withstanding temperatures in excess of 1,300°C. Together with Akebono brake calipers, 6-pot on the front and 4-pot on the rear, they bring the SU7 Ultra to a halt from 100kph in just 30.8 metres.
The SU7 Ultra boasts a Model S Plaid-beating 0-100kph time of 1.98 seconds and a 0-200kph time of just 5.86 seconds. It’ll run on to a top speed of 350kph and complete the quarter mile in just 9.23 seconds.
Xiaomi made no note of the vehicle’s range during the launch, presumably as it’s not the most important detail, but it was announced that it’ll use a CATL Qilin 2.0 battery with a 93.7kWh capacity and maximum discharge power of 1,330kW, plenty enough for the SU7’s triple motors. It’ll still discharge more than 800kW even at 20% charge.
The battery upgrades the SU7’s charging capability to around 490kW, or around 5.2C, meaning it should charge 10-80% in 11 minutes, marginally slower than Zeekr’s LFP Golden Battery.
Interior modifications include lightweight yellow and black sports seats and interior decor all clad in leather and Alcantara, along with matching yellow seatbelts. The steering wheel has also been modified with a simplified fascia, flat top with yellow centre marker, and carbon fibre and Alcantara grips.
The carbon fibre also extends to other interior parts including the door cards, centre console, door sills, and exterior mirrors.
Xiaomi claims the SU7 Ultra racked up 3,680 orders just 10 minutes after pre-sales opened, suggesting they’ve got another hit on their hands despite the hefty price tag.
Just a few days prior to the launch, a prototype version of the SU7 Ultra featuring a carbon fibre body and 1,900kg kerb weight claimed the Nurburgring lap record for a four-door saloon on a damp track, slotting in just behind the NIO EP9 despite the damp surface.
The on-board footage of the record-breaking run is quite something to behold, so take a few minutes to appreciate it in all its glory below.
