XPeng says it has taken over 30,000 orders for its upcoming P7+ hatchback (coming soon to Inside China Auto) within two hours of the new model going on pre-sale following its launch at the Paris Motor Show.
The numbers mark a stunning entry to the market for the brand’s new flagship hatchback following hot on the heels of an equally enthusiastic reception to the budget MONA M03 which itself looks set to power XPeng to as many as 40,000 monthly sales in October.
A major factor in the unbridled enthusiasm for the the P7+ looks to be an aggressively low price, with the base version kicking off at just 209,800 RMB, more than ten percent cheaper than a Tesla Model 3, and even undercutting the smaller XPeng P7i by 14,000 RMB.
Yet another hatchback-type saloon for XPeng, the P7+ seems to be selling on the basis of impressive practicality, space, and by virtue of offering the first vision-only iteration of the XNGP ADAS system, called Eagle Eye Vision.
Its apparent success, combined with that of the MONA M03, comes at just the right time for XPeng who are far behind their sales target for the year. If deliveries, which are due to begin in November, can hit the ground running, it could be monumental for their year.
Checking the car out at a dealership in Guangzhou, it’s clear to see similarities between the P7+ and the MONA M03 inside where a minimalist layout is adopted, although the P7+ uses more premium materials with top surfaces covered in leather-like materials and a microfibre headlining.
Twin 50-watt vented wireless chargers, a 20-speaker Dynaudio sound system, and an 8-inch screen for the rear seats are the only other visible features of note outside of the 15.6-inch central screen.
Unlike the P7i, the P7+ will initially only be offered with rear-wheel drive, with a choice of two motors offering 180kW and 230kW of power, and a pair of battery options, 60.7kWh and 76.3kWh, offering 620km and 710km of range respectively.
