Lynk & Co 02 / Z20 Debuts in Milan – Heading to Europe

Lynk & Co 02 / Z20

The Lynk & Co Z20, named 02 in Europe, has been unveiled at an event in Milan ahead of an expected public debut at the Paris Motor Show.

The brand’s second fully-electric model is a compact SUV in the same mould as the Zeekr X, Volvo EX30, and smarts #1 and #3, and shares the same SEA 2 platform.

Following a big launch into Europe in 2020 with the 01, much was expected of Lynk & Co and their subscription model but very little has materialised since. The launch of the Z20 in Milan and the demo of the Z10 at the Frankfurt Auto Show suggest that may be about to change.

Somewhat ironically, the Z20 utilises the same design language as the Zeekr X, which was originally conceived as a Lynk & Co, including very similar daytime running lights on the bonnet, but it differs from the X in various areas including a more coupe-like side profile and a mid-level rear spoiler that doubles up as a pixelated light bar.

Other design features include a large panoramic roof and stylish 3- and 5-spoke wheel options in 19- and 20-inch variants.

Lynk & Co has also revealed there will be a 15-litre frunk, boot space of 410-litres, as well as a ‘Hey Honk’ function that allows drivers to choose alternative sounds to warn pedestrians. A real horn is of course still available.

The Z20 is fractionally larger than the Zeekr X in every dimension making it the largest of the SEA 2 quintuplets, with a length of 4460mm, width of 1845mm, height of 1573mm, and a wheelbase of 2755mm.

It’ll be offered with one drivetrain option only, a single-motor, rear-wheel drive format with a 200kW / 343Nm motor offering a 0-100kph sprint of 5.5-seconds.

There’s also only one battery option, which is a 66kWh NMC battery with a range of between 435km and 445km on the WLTP cycle.

The platform is 400-volt and comes with DC charging of 150kW and, more importantly for Europe, options of 11kW and 22kW AC charging.

In Europe at least, it will also offer towing capacity of 1600kg.

Inside, we’ve only got teaser images so far, which show a dashboard quite similar to that in the X. It comes in two colour variants, Black Ocean and Stone Grey, and uses recycled textiles, suggesting more of a cloth-based vibe.

On the infotainment front, there’s a 10.2-inch driver’s display screen, a 15.4-inch HD central screen running on the Snapdragon 8195 processor and using ECARX-developed software, 14 Harmon Kardon speakers, dual wireless phone chargers, and 5G connectivity.

There’s also a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a curious tag that emerges from the dashboard, perhaps the Hey Honk feature.

Lynk & Co has confirmed there will be heating for the steering wheel and front seats, as well as seat memory functions, electric door release buttons, and a 360-degree camera. The centre console, which features a translucent tinted material, will be removable to use as storage outside the car.

Two variants will be offered in Europe, Core and More, with the Core variant starting at €35,495 and the More variant from €39,495.

The Z20 will be available in four new colours, Crystal White, Grey Grid, Cosmic Blue, and the Techno Magenta shown in the images.

Lynk & Co also claims that the Z20 is particularly sustainable, stating that they use blockchain technology to track the materials in their batteries, and that they will refurbish, repair, and as a last resort, recycle batteries via a third party.

They’re also sticking to their car sharing roots, making it possible for customers to share their car via an app in the central screen and make money with it, which could be a popular feature in dense cities with expensive or difficult to find parking.

Sales will likely start in tandem in both Europe and China after the car is revealed to the Chinese public at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November.

  1. I need a car, narrower than 1800mm. Roads here are narrow, I simply cannot drive anything wider.
